Within the scope of alkali refining, soap stock is a by-product; it is used for separation of phases by acid treatment. The upper layer consists of produced fatty acids.

Resulting fatty acids are almost moisture-free, so, as a rule, their fat content is close to 100%.

Fatty acids can be directly used in a wider range of productions: from soap making to oleochemical industry.
